point perspective

The Point Perspective drawing was a very hard project. Even though I enjoyed it, it was very difficult. First off, I had to choose what letters I was going to use. I wanted the drawing to define myself so I decided to do my initials. The hardest part in drawing my initials was drawing the 'K' and 'B'. The 'M' was the easiest because it was kind of like drawing bubble letters. The 'K' and 'B' took a while to draw because the initials were being drawn at a birds eye view and slanting at the same time.  The lines had to be perfectly proportioned to the vanishing point. If the lines weren't perfect, the shape would not appear 3D. For the background, I chose a golf ball and golf course because I play golf. Trying to make the texture on the golf ball look realistic was a challenge. The golf ball had to look 3D or else it wouldn't meet the accommodations for the project. Coloring the drawing was my favorite part. I always add value and color because it can make a dull piece of artwork look so much better.

Shoe drawing

I really enjoyed the shoe drawing. I thought that it would be an easy project, but it turned out to be pretty difficult. First off, I had to choose the shoes I wanted to draw. I chose my Jack Rogers because I liked all of the designs in the shoe. There were lots of shapes, lines, and value. Then, I had to plan out the position I was going to draw the shoes in. Both of the shoes had to be in the drawing, and the shoes had to look 3D. The radial design in the shoes were the hardest to draw. I made sure I put all of the detail from the shoe onto the assignment by using a viewfinder. There was a lot of detail and precision that had to be put into the drawing. I decided to draw the shoe box because without it, the drawing looked plain. The project turned out to be one of my favorites. I learned many things throughout the artwork and would do it again.

Pastel still life

The pastel still life project was one of my favorites. I brought in fruit from the fruit bowl at my house, and decided to draw the objects. The thumbnail sketch is a sketch we did in our sketchbook. It is a tiny drawing of the objects we chose. We used a viewfinder to help draw the thumbnail sketch. The viewfinder took a little piece of the objects and showed all of the colors and composition. The viewfinder allowed us to view the objects by little pieces at a time. I added shadows to the fruit to make them look realistic and three dimensional. I made the left side darker and the right side lighter. This represented that the light in the drawing comes in on the right side.

Acrylic Landsdcape Painting

I started my painting by planning out what I was going to paint. I took a photo I had taken of the Cape Lookout lighthouse, and painted the exact photo. The lighthouse was put in the back, and the boat in the front to make the composition look more realistic. I organized my painting by putting different effects in different places to make the painting colorful and come to life. The atmospheric perspective is how the colors in the painting switch. The colors in the back are darker to make the area look farther away and the colors in the front are brighter to make it look closer. I created a light source by making some of the colors on the right side bright and by putting shadows on the boat and a reflection of the lighthouse in the water. My color scheme was analogous and the colors were blue and somewhat green. I used different brush strokes in different areas. For example, in the water i used many different brush strokes to make the water look real. I put side to side brush strokes in sky, and made the trees look big and full by using a fan brush. The value in my painting makes the painting come to life.

Ceramics Project

The ceramics project is made out of clay and is pretty large compared to a normal cereal bowl. I wanted to stress the radial design and make the edges of the bowl resemble a flower. Hand making and sculpting were two techniques I used. My piece serves a function as the center piece for our dining room table. This project was made for my mom for mothers day. I put her initials in the center showing that the bowl was hers. I learned how ceramic bowls were made and what the process was to make them. I realized what everyday people go through to make these bowls. Next time, I would probably put different designs on my bowl and not make the bowl as thin. Overall, I enjoyed the ceramics project and would do it again.
